John Redwood raised the spectre of Greek euros plummeting in value if the debt-laden country was forced out of the single currency club.

Thirsty punters turned to drink yesterday, chasing shares of newly de-merged pubs group Spirit on revived bid hopes. They closed 6.66p higher at 46.66p amid rumours of a possible bid from private equity or rival Mitchells & Butlers (13.2p up at 246.55p) which has continued to do the rounds since it split from Punch Taverns, flat at 11.50p.
